The Seoul Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Museum continues to attract more and more visitors partly through the museum’s marketing efforts and word of mouth.

According to the recent statistics, the Seoul Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Museum has witnessed a sharp increase year-on-year in number of foreign visitors from May to August by as much as 60%, gaining ever-growing popularity.

The museum has enjoyed enhanced public awareness and reputation among health-conscious visitors from Japan in particular. On August 2, Japanese singers-turned-actresses Fukushima Wakana and Fukushima Mai toured the museum accompanied by the president of the Korea Tourism Organization, Lee Charm. The sister entertainers were given a brief introduction to Korean traditional herbal medicine followed by a Korean herbal medicine tea tasting.

Fukushima Wakana said that Japan has seen a spreading interest in medical tours to Korea, partly affected by the Korean Wave, adding that she was particularly happy to learn about Korean medicinal herbs that are allegedly good for skin care.

Every Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., a wide variety of hands-on activities are provided by the museum free of charge, tailored to not only foreigners but also domestic visitors and families with children over the age of six. In the Saturday program, visitors may brew medicinal tea for individual consumption or receive guided tours.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the museum will also hand out scented herbal medicine souvenirs to children from multicultural families and foreign visitors until October 12.

The museum is located in the northeastern part of the capital, adjacent to Seoul Yangnyeong Market, the nation’s largest Oriental herb and medicine market.
