Seoul Drum Festival to wrap up on Sep. 24

The Seoul Drum Festival has been going on since September 3 in venues around Seoul including Sejong M Theater and Children's Grand Park. Marking its 13th year, the festival will hold an opening ceremony and main events at Seoul Square on September 23 at 7 p.m. after hosting several pre-events such as the Fringe Dream Concert and preliminary rounds of the Amateur Percussion Competition.

During the opening ceremony, footage of the previous festivals will be shown with some drumming performances by professional overseas drumming teams.

On September 24, amateur teams from Korea and other countries including Japan, Brazil, and China will perform percussion acts. Starting at 7 p.m., professional percussion teams from Brazil, Mexico, and Kosovo will celebrate the festival with their drumming performances. An awards ceremony for the winner of the competition will also be held at the same venue.

Invited percussion teams from overseas include Synergy from Australia, Bumba Meu Boi De Morros from Brazil, and Estampas de Mexico from Mexico, all of which have at least 30 years of history.
