The two Koreas have agreed to hold reunions for families separated since the Korean War (1950-1953) at Mountain Geumgangsan, a scenic North Korean resort, from Oct. 20 to 26.

The agreement came after representatives from both sides’ Red Crosses held two-day marathon talks between Sept. 7 and 8 in the House of Peace in Panmunjom, Gyeonggi-do Province.

It’s been a year and eight months since the last reunion took place, in February 2014. Under this new agreement, the two Koreas will hold reunions for 100 separated families. For mobility-challenged people, one or two of their family members will be allowed to accompany them.

The two sides agreed on the need to fundamentally resolve humanitarian issues, and also to hold high-level Red Cross talks as soon as possible so as to discuss a wide range of issues involving the upcoming reunions.
