President Moon Jae-in on May 18 will deliver a keynote speech at the annual World Health Assembly (WHA) via videoconferencing as the representative for Asia.

He is expected to share Korea's experience and accomplishments in the process of implementing quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

His speech will mention his nation's three-step approach to quarantine of openness, transparency and democracy, as well as convey a message to the international community on working together in solidarity to overcome the pandemic.

Also attending the event with President Moon will be German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the representative for Europe and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa as that for Africa.

President Moon's speech was requested on April 6 by World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in their phone talks, given the latter's high assessment of Korea's response to COVID-19.
