More students this year will wear school uniforms sporting designs inspired by Hanbok (traditional Korean attire) under a joint project of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education. The photo above shows several such uniforms released by the Culture Ministry.

More students are expected to wear school uniforms sporting designs inspired by Hanbok (traditional Korean attire) as more schools nationwide this year will start offering such uniforms.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Jan. 16 held a ceremony for the Hanbok industry with the Hanbok Advancement Center under the Korea Craft and Design Foundation at the Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotel on this year's projects to promote Hanbok culture.

One of the projects is promoting Hanbok-inspired school uniforms. The center said around ten schools have adopted such uniforms including Korean Minjok Leadership Academy, which is known for its modern-style Hanbok uniforms.

The ministry will seek to gradually increase the number of schools adopting such attire.

Through a contest they jointly held last year, the ministry and the Ministry of Education developed uniform designs inspired by Hanbok. This year, both ministries will support the distribution of Hanbok uniforms after selecting the schools wishing to adopt such designs through a related contest.

A Culture Ministry official said, "We will listen to Hanbok workers and actively reflect their opinions in policy toward promoting Hanbok culture."
