K-pop sensation BTS on Sept. 20 delivered a message of hope to youths worldwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic in a speech at the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

At the opening ceremony of the second Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment at U.N. headquarters in New York, BTS gave a speech on behalf of youth and future generations.

This is the third time for the boy band to speak at the annual U.N. gathering, following appearances in September 2018 and September 2020.

This time, each of the seven group members spoke and did so in Korean.

On teens and 20-somethings in the world, Jin said, "I think that instead of 'lost generation' due to COVID-19, the better name is the 'welcoming generation' because instead of fearing change, this generation keeps forging ahead by saying 'Welcome.'"

BTS leader RM said, "We thought the world stopped but it continues to move forward slowly," adding, "We believe that every choice is the beginning of change, not the end."

J-hope said all members had been vaccinated and stressed the importance of vaccination.

After the speech, BTS released a special video of its hit song “Permission to Dance” with U.N. headquarters in the background.

In the video, members displayed the international sign language expressions "Being happy," "Let's dance" and "Peace," highlighting the mood at the U.N. assembly.

The video saw more than 980,000 simultaneous real-time views on YouTube just before it ended.
