The SMTOWN Live World Tour in New York, a musical concert featuring Korean singers from SM Entertainment, was held at Madison Square Garden in New York, the U.S. on October 23.

Singers including BoA, Super Junior, Kangta, DBSK, Girls’ Generation, and Shiny performed their own songs along with special performances as well as joint stages. Girls’ Generation revealed its English version of “The Boys” during the concert. Among the audience of 15,000, more than 70% were non-Asian K-pop fans.

The concert has been held in cities worldwide including Tokyo, Shanghai, and Paris. Tickets for the concert held in Staples Center in LA last year completely sold out and songs performed at the concert were listed in the top 10 of the Box Score chart in Billboard Magazine.
 
Madison Square Garden is known as a stage of dreams for singers.  It has been the venue for a number of concerts of world-renowned singers including Michael Jackson, Beyonce Knowles, and Lady Gaga as well as Justin Bieber. It is also the home of the New York Knicks, and has become a Mecca of American pop culture.

Meanwhile, the concert was reported by the New York Daily News in a special piece on the front page with the headline ”attack of the K-Pop Stars.” On October 23, the New York Daily News printed a picture of Girls’ Generation along with interviews with the girl group on the front page with a special piece about K-pop. The article also covered the atmosphere at the concert and Hallyu or Korean wave in New York along with an interview with an official from Universal Music.
