For many Koreans, soaking in a hot spring (oncheon) is one of the best ways to get warm and to even refresh an exhausted body and mind during winter. Today many resorts feature both indoor and open-air hot springs, as well as other warm-water hydro-massage facilities and special tubs with green tea and medicinal herbs blended in the water. Extended stays are also possible, as many resorts are equipped with overnight accommodation facilities, restaurants and recreation centers.

Korea is also becoming a preferred winter destination for skiing with its natural beauty around the mountains. The country is home to some of the best slopes around the world.

Mountainous Gangwon-do (Gangwon Province) is the most popular destination for skiing in the country. The province has eight of the country's 15 main ski resorts. The most popular are Yongpyong Resort, High 1, Vivaldi Park and Phoenix Park. Muju Resort, albeit not in Gangwon-do, is also a very popular destination.

All ski resorts are equipped with internationally certified facilities and comfortable accommodation with various kinds of discount packages and fun programs such as concerts and festivals.

Meanwhile, Korea also has world-class amusement parks and waterparks. Everland, the country's biggest amusement park, is the world's 10th largest theme park, while Lotte World, another popular theme park in southern Seoul, ranked 15th according to data released by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) last year. The rides are thrilling and the prices extremely reasonable.
