The K-pop group BTS has made history as the first Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart of the U.S.

In the article "BTS' 'Dynamite' Blasts in at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, Becoming the Group's First Leader," Billboard on Aug. 31 said, "BTS achieves its first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as 'Dynamite' debuts at the summit."

On March 7, the group hit No. 4 on the chart with "On," the title track from its fourth regular album "Map of the Soul: 7," and the American media brand said the group now "rules the Hot 100" with "Dynamite."

As Billboard's main chart, the Hot 100 ranks single albums based on streaming, radio airplay and sales data. In 2012, "Gangnam Style" by Korean rapper Psy stayed at No. 2 on the chart for seven consecutive weeks but never reached the top spot.

Since its release, "Dynamite" has topped Spotify's Global Top 50 and its music video set a YouTube record for the most views of a video within 24 hours of its release and the fastest to reach 100 million and 200 million views.

The group on Aug. 30 performed "Dynamite" for the first time in New York at the MTV Video Music Awards, where it won the honors for Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Group and Best Choreography for the song "On." BTS also became the first Korean act to bag the Best Pop award at the event.
