October 3 was a public holiday, the National Foundation Day of Korea or Gaecheonjeol in the Korean language. It is known as the day that Dangun Wanggeom founded Gojoseon, an ancient Korean nation, and gaecheon means "opening the sky." A ceremony for praying for national prosperity and the welfare of the people was held to celebrate Gaecheonjeol on October 3 at the national spiritual mountain Mt. Taebaek in Gangwondo (Gangwon Province). (Photo: Yonhap News)
