Everyone employed by a company with more than five employees is entitled to Workplace Medical Insurance, regardless of nationality. The employer is responsible for enrolling the employee, and generally pays 50 percent of the monthly fee, which also covers dependent spouses and children. Businesses with fewer than five employees are not required to enroll their workers, and employees at these businesses are advised to check whether they are being covered. Those who are enrolled in the plan receive a card or booklet certifying their participation, which should be presented at the hospital or clinic.
Community Medical Insurance is for the unemployed, part-time workers, small business employees and others who are not entitled to Workplace Medical. Non-citizens can also apply for this program for themselves and their dependents. Applicants will need to present their alien registration card, a certificate of current employment or an employment contract or a certificate of family relationship.
