"Baby Shark Dance" has assumed the title of the most watched video in YouTube history.

Smartstudy, the parent company of the children's entertainment brand Pinkfong, said that as of Nov. 2 at 1:20 p.m., the nursery song video amassed 7.037 billion views to take the top all-time spot on the video sharing platform.

The previous record holder was the music video of Luis Fonsi's hit "Despacito," which had reigned from August 2017.

Running 2 minutes, 16 seconds, "Baby Shark Dance" was released in June 2016 by Pinkfong on its YouTube channel.

The video features children singing the "Baby Shark" song with a catchy chorus and easy dance movements.

American actress Amanda Cerny in September 2017 danced to the song on an Indonesian TV program, captivating children especially in Southeast Asia.

"Baby Shark" has versions in 19 languages including Korean and English, and renditions of the hit have spanned several genres including gugak (traditional Korean music) and electronic dance music.

Last year, the song ranked 32nd on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and sixth on the U.K. Singles Chart.

The Washington Nationals, a U.S. Major League Baseball team, used the song as its anthem during their World Series-winning season last year.
