The Korean Culture & Information Service (KOCIS), part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced on April 18 that it has designated the four-member pop group Winner as its official campaign model for the global Talk Talk Korea 2018 contest.

The group will follow in the footsteps of the Bangtan Boys and EXO, pop groups that worked with the campaign previously in 2016 and 2017. Winner will film a few video clips to promote the contest, as well as pose in pictures at the contest’s official website.

A group of KOCIS Honorary Ambassadors will be working with the contest this year, running social media campaigns and livestreaming all sorts of Korean content, like songs and movies, across seven languages: English, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and French. The Honorary Ambassadors will be part of the contest, from pre-promoting the event in their respective languages, to participating in an invitational tour of Korea with contest winners.

They will accompany the five winners in a total of five categories on a trip across Korea, and they will produce their own digital content and spread it by means of their own personal online channels for their fans all around the world.

The annual Talk Talk Korea contest, which marks its fifth run this year, attracts about 20,000 entries from about 130 countries each year. Last year’s contest, which was focused on the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, had more than 31,000 entries globally.

Under the theme of “Find Korea in your country” this year, the contest will collect creations from all around the world in a total of five categories: Korean Food, Beauty Products & Style, Songs & Soap Operas, Other (Hanbok, Hangeul, taekwondo, et cetera), and, lastly, a special topic that has yet to be decided. The entries can be video clips, online comic strips, photographs, computer graphics or drawings.

For those interested in entering the contest, please submit your creation at www.talktalkkorea.or.kr between May 16 and June 28. A select group of 125 participants will receive some sort of gift, like a laptop, a tablet or a smart wristband.

Winners in each of the five categories will have an opportunity to travel to Korea for five days in October 2018, to have hands-on experiences with the country’s heritage, arts and other traditions.

Winning contestants will be selected via a combined score from judges’ evaluations and votes by viewers worldwide, which will run from July 24 to Aug. 20, and the number of viewers on each online channel will play a part, too.

Please note that voting will be done not only online, but also offline at global events and at certain Korean locations around the world.

“This contest will be a chance to showcase Korean arts, heritage and other traditional aspects that are being enjoyed by the whole world,” said KOCIS Director Kim Tae-hoon.
