The 2011 IAAF World Championships in Athletics came to a close on September 4 after the successful nine-day program.

Jamaica set a world record of 37.04 seconds in the men’s 400-meter relay finals earlier that day, and the country’s leading sprinter Usain Bolt won his second gold medal after having won the men’s 200-meter finals on September 3.

The closing ceremony was held in Daegu Stadium, which filled with spectators and nearly 2,000 athletes and officials from 201 countries, promising to meet again in Moscow, Russia, the next event venue in 2014.

This year’s Championships surprised many sports fans around the world, as Usain Bolt was disqualified for making a false start at the men’s 100-meter race and Dayron Robles from Cuba lost the gold after being disqualified for obstructing an opponent in the men’s 110-meter hurdles finals.
